Mixon Family Update

Sidney began violin lesson at the end of May.
She can play Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star flawlessly.
She seems to really enjoy learning the instrument.
Her teacher says she is a natural.

Sidney will be starting 1st grade on Thursday.
She got to meet her teach yesterday and
found out a friend from Kindergarten is also in her class
which put a big smile on her face.

She will be turning 6 in August.

Meikayla is 8 1/2 and has discovered a book series
She really enjoys: The American girl books: ADDY

She is now in her 2nd year of Piano lessons and sounds
really great. I love to listen to her play. She is very
talented!

Meikayla will be start 3rd grade in Aug. She is a
great student. She received the student of the year award
both for 1st grade and 2nd...maybe she'll make it 3 for 3 this year?

I am hanging in there. Jarrett has gone bonkers with the
stress of his life so I am just trying to stay afloat each day.
I am REALLY looking forward to all 3 of the girls being
in school this fall. I will have a whole whopping 5 hours a
day to myself. Maybe I can finally find the time to keep
my house clean, get dinners made on a regular basis, and even
exercise! I know for sure doing my routes will be so much
easier without having to entertain a 4 year old in the car for 6 hours
at a time! I can't wait until Thursday!!!
Latavia has grown up so much! She will be starting
Kindergarten in 2 days. We got to go meet her teacher
Mr. Mendoza yesterday. I think he will be a great teacher
for her. He is way more patient then I am!!!

Latavia started Dance (tap & ballet combo) 5 weeks ago.
She loves it. I took a few shots of her this week. She looks
so grown up for her age.

She will be turning 5 in August.

Finally Jarrett...well a picture is worth a
1000 words so I will let this one speak for itself!

This is my prayer

5:52 PM Edit This 0 Comments »
God told Satan look at my servant Job there is no other like him...
Satan took all of Jobs fortune (he was the wealthiest man around)
Satan took all 7 sons and all 3 daughters
Jobs wife didn't encourage him she told him to curse God and die...
Then satan cause boils to cover his body

Possessions...GONE
Family...GONE
Support System...GONE
Health...GONE

Yet he still praised the Lord!

If I were to loose my house...
If I were to loose the fun pool...
If I were to loose my family...
If I were to loose my support system...
and get really sick...WOULD I STILL PRAISE THE LORD?

I would like to think...
that I would trust God in His purpose,
that I would trust in God's Power,
that I would trust God in His Sovereignty and praise Him...
NO MATTER WHAT!

We are pressed on every side by troubles,
but we are not crushed.
We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.
We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God.
We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NLT)

I heard this song today and it really blessed my heart!
(click on the title to hear Hillsong sing it!)

This is my prayer in the desert
When all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides

This is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved
Of more worth than gold
So refine me Lord through the flame

I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship

This is my prayer in the harvest
When favour and providence flow
I know I’m filled to be emptied again
The seed I’ve received I will sow

Shanda's World Race

6:37 PM Edit This 2 Comments »
Shanda left June 2008 to embark on
THE WORLD RACE
an 11  country, 11 month mission trip.
In an attempt to include her 3 nieces she took them each out on a special date where she purchased them each 2 identical toys. One for them to keep to remember her by and the other for her to take along with her and give to a child who might need so extra love and whom also reminded her of her nieces.
This is Sidney's picture of her aunt Shanda going around the world.
So Meikayla picked out a pair of dogs.
and Dubexi from Guatemala received one!

Unbelievable how much alike they look!
Latavia picked out 2 little baby dolls.
Madlisto from Swaziland received the other one!

Don't they look alike!
Sidney also picked out a pair of dogs.
Imola from Romania received the other one!

Amazing how they have the same smile and sparkly brown eyes!
Update on Shanda: She is having a blast and has found her inner passion!
check out her blogs at
www.shandadodd.theworldrace.org
She will be returning to AZ in August if you want to see her!

Granny's trip to AZ

9:16 AM Edit This 3 Comments »
So my 90 year old Granny arrived last Wednesday. Boy have we had a good week. Here is just a little snippet of all we did...

Blowing Bubbles
Going to the Museum of Natural History...the poop exhibit
Making strawberry Jam...I thought she'd cut her hands
Going to Grandma Donna's house for Sunday lunch
all of us minus Jarrett
Granny and Latavia got to go to jail
Panning for gold
Sidney caught a butterfly, she was so proud
We took Granny on the Quad
And here is the video...
The doorbell rang at 10pm. A man looking for a lost dog. While Jarrett and I were outside Granny dropped to all 4 on the floor by the sink. I came back in and she wasn't anywhere. (She hid her walker) I was looking for her and thought she was in the pantry waiting to scare me. I went to go look and she reached out and grabbed my leg from below. I screamed so loud. I almost had a heart attack! She laughed so hard. I told her I just might have to send her home earlier if she keeps this up!!! Haha.
video

We have had a great time together!

Do you believe in miracles?

Excerpt from “The Rockdale Citizen” Paper

Pastor Recalls Example of a True Miracle

October 16, 1987

Recently our church received the following letter from one of our missionaries.

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday evening June 9th, 1987 and eight year old girls tried to run across a busy highway in the late evening rain. She entered the road from behind some tall shrubs which obstructed her view. when she stepped out onto the asphalt she was struck by a car traveling at 50 mph. On Impact she was lifted and thrown. From the point of contact to where she was found lying in the road was a distance of 32 yards. Her shoes, earrings and finger ring were knocked off of her body. Her clothes were torn. Miraculously there were no asphalt scraps, not even one.

The next car to arrive on the scene 20 seconds later was driven by a doctor who was on vacation 6 hours from his home. Realizing what had happened he jumped out of his car and stopped the driver of the hit car from picking up the girl. He took the girl’s pulse. When he understood that she was still alive he quickly shielded her from the rain with a blanket that he was carrying in his car. And from his mobile phone he called for an ambulance. He stayed with her and did all that he could until the ambulance arrived.

(He slipped away into the crowd and was never heard of or seen again.)

When the medics arrived and saw that the girl’s head was half open and swollen out of proportion they strongly suspected that the skull had been crushed. Judging by the hit car’s crumbled fender and broken headlights and bashed hood they were also convinced that the girl probably had incurred broken bones and ruptured organs throughout her body. After reaching the hospital the little girl’s body was repeatedly scanned and x-rayed. The doctors were amazed to the point of shaking their heads when the test showed no internal damages and not even one splintered bone, much less a fractured or broken one. Even the fully exposed skull that had taken the blow had escaped injury.

But there had been a severe brain concussion. And to try to keep the brain from swelling and causing permanent brain damage or even death they started injecting medicine. For 3 days her life hung in the balance. Thousands of people were mobilized to intercede with prayer.  The brain did not swell. And after only 8  days the little girl was walking and playing in the hospital. She was so normal that is was almost frightening. It was as if she has never been hit. Even the sewn up head wound of 5 rapid, messy stitched that the doctors at first said would later require cosmetic surgery was healing so well that it was almost unbelievable.

As of today there have been absolutely no side affects what so ever from the accident. The only reminder is the scar on the forehead, and even it is becoming less and less noticeable with every passing day.

Sherri and I have been extremely humbled by God’s merciful treatment. Because this little girl is our oldest daughter Heidi.

Serving a gracious God,

Randy & Sherri Dodd

Scientist today contest that out world is a closed system an that if there is a God, he does not intervene in the natural order of things via supernatural means. In other words, there is no such thing as a miracle.

If this incident is an example of the natural order of things, then it should be able to be reproduced with similar results on a consistent basis.

Call me unscientific, but I would rather believe that this is a perfect example of a miracle of God than be the subject in a study to test the naturalness of this event...

THe Skinny on the Culture Passes

10:31 AM Edit This 1 Comment »

Hello Ladies,
I am sure some of you have heard of or received the email going around about the new
 "Culture Pass."

I wanted to send out a more detailed email since I went and did some investigation myself this morning.

First you have to have a library card for one of the participating libraries.

City of Chandler
City of Glendale
City of Mesa
City of Phoenix
City of Scottsdale
City of Tempe

The Queen Creek Library IS NOT participating.

The closest library that is, is the Basha Library  located at the Basha High School off of Riggs and Val Vista.

Since none of us Queen Creekers are "Chandler" resident we must pay $40 for a library card at this location which is good for a year.

Although free is always better $40 isn't bad since most of the places you can get into are $10 a person so with one culture pass it your library card has paid for itself.

This is they way it works.

Basha library has 5 large yellow plastic passes for each of the following places.

(I added the regular admission price without the pass incase you have extra people that want to go.)

AZ Museum for Youth
$5.50
1 and under free

AZ Museum of Natural History
$10 adults
$6 (3-12)
2 and under free

AZ Science Center
$9 adult
$7 (3-17)
2 and under free

The Bead Museum
$5
$2.50 (4-12)
3 and under free

Cave Creek Museum
$5 adults
$2 12 and under

Children's Museum of Phoenix
$9 all
1 and under free

Desert Botanical Garden
$15 adults
$7.50 (13-18 w/ID)
$5 (3-12)
2 and under free

Heard Museum
$10 adults
$5 Students w/ID
$3 (6-12)
5 and under free

Mesa Contemporary Arts
$3.50 for everyone

Phoenix Art Museum
$10 adults
$4 (6-17)
5 and under free

Phoenix Zoo
$16 (13+)
$7 (3-12)
2 and under free

Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
$7 adults
$5 sutudents
free 1-15

Taliesin West
$27 per person

The librarian said if you needed more that 4 tickets you can check out two passes but you must have two library cards to do that. Only one per card per week.

The Passes are in this unit (looks like a movie rental stand at Blockbuster) you pick one if it is available and go to the desk. The librarian will take you pass and print you out a paper ticket to admit 4 for free to you selected location.

Your little bitty piece of paper she gives you is now you admission ticket for 4 for FREE.

DON'T loose it! They won't replace it!

This gives you 1 week from today to go and enjoy. After a week she will put the big yellow ticket back on the shelf for the next person to check out.

If you don't use your ticket it
will simply expire. No need to return it to the library.

Since yesterday was the first day of the program a lot of the passes were checked out. So next Wed. night all the yellow tickets that were checked out yesterday will be put back on the shelf and are again available first come first serve Thurs. Morning. The ticket I checked out today will go back on the shelf next Friday. So basically you may want to call ahead to see what passes are available to check out.

(The Basha Library opens at 7:30 AM!)

The librarian said the pass would be in existence for the next two years. The brochure says April 1, 2009 - April 1, 2010.

Either way is still cool!

I hope this helps out.
Heidi

Please feel free to FWD this to anyone else!

Real Mom's Real Jesus

7:11 AM Edit This 0 Comments »

Today I’d like to welcome author and speaker, Jill Savage. Jill’s recent book Real Moms…Real Jesus, just released, and I wanted to ask her about her real mom moments..

Jill, tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

Mark and I have been married 25 years and we have five children. Anne is 24 and married to our wonderful son-in-love, Matt. Evan is 21 and married to our beautiful daughter-in-love, Julie. Erica is 18 and a college student at Heartland Community College. Kolya is 15 and in the 8th grade. We adopted Kolya at the age of 9 from Russia---the God story about his adoption is included in the Real Moms…Real Jesus book. And Austin is 12 and in the 7th grade.

Tell us about your newest book Real Moms...Real Jesus?

Real Moms…Real Jesus is a book designed to help moms understand that when Jesus lived on this earth he was fully God, yet fully man. We don’t often think about the fact that he was a human being and he lived the full human experience: pain, hunger, fatigue, frustration, betrayal, disappointment. He experienced it all!

There’s one verse in the Bible about Jesus that simply says “large crowds followed him everywhere he went.” Well, isn’t that the life of a mom? Large crowds follow her to the bathroom. They follow her to the kitchen. To the grocery store. She’s in high demand! And when Jesus lived on this earth, He was in high demand, too.

Why did you want to write this book?

Most of us long for a friend who understands. Yes, we need girlfriends who understand what our life is like. But we also need to understand that we have a friend who understands in Jesus. Too many of us think of God as being distant and unable to relate to our daily struggles. But nothing could be further from the truth! He understands and he wants us to build our friendship with Him. He wants to not only be our Savior, but also our Friend.

What do you hope your readers will gain from this book?

I hope that readers will gain a new perspective about their relationship with Jesus. I also hope to weave God’s truth into the daily life of a mom.

What unique elements will the reader find in Real Moms…Real Jesus?

Each chapter looks at some character trait in Jesus’ life that can help us in our life as a mom. In between the chapters are interactive vignettes that provide brief, refreshing glimpses into our real, messy, busy lives.

There are also questions at the end of the chapter for further consideration and suggested Bible reading in the book of Matthew. If the reader chooses to pursue the suggested reading, she will have read the book of Matthew completely by the end of the book!

There is also a leader’s guide in the back of the book so it can be used in a group setting.

This is a Hearts at Home book. What is Hearts at Home?

Hearts at Home is an organization that encourages, educates, and equips women in the profession of motherhood. Hearts at Home encourages moms through annual conferences, our extensive website (www.hearts-at-home.org), a free bi-weekly electronic newsletter, a radio program, and an entire line of books designed to meet the needs of moms all over the world!

Any closing thoughts?

I am very excited about this book! I believe that if a mom can strengthen her relationship with Jesus Christ, she will feel more equipped to be the mom she wants to be. I’m also offering an online book discussion on my blog beginning Tuesday, April 7. If you’d like to join us, you can subscribe to my blog at www.jillsavage.org.

I’d love to hear a reader’s thoughts after they read the book, too! You can connect to me through my blog at www.jillsavage.org.

Thanks, Jill, for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your real mom, real Jesus moments with us.

You can purchase your own copy of Real Moms…Real Jesus by clicking here.

And be sure to check out Hearts at Home, their conferences for moms, and all their online resources here.

My Little Budding Photographer!

I gave Sidney my old digital camera and she has taken it and gone to town!!!
I think she might have my genes after all!
Here are a few of her pictures.

I did give them a little photoshop facelift to enhance the color
but I do that with mine too, so it's all fair...
she took these pictures all by herself spending over
an hour in the backyard with her camera today.

She told me she wants to participate in the 2009 Dodd Photography Contest
and she thinks she can win!

So here they are my 5 Year old pictures.

Tucson Zoo trip

Bridget and I took Sidney and Latavia to the Tucson Zoo for Valentine's Day.
(So Jarrett could work on our taxes in a quiet house)
Sidney asked if she could take a camera and take some pictures. I gave her my old, old digital from 2003 and she had a blast. She took this first one of us.
The tiger came right up to the window to great us!

My two little hatchinglings

These guys reminded me of my marriage...
trying to get your spouse to understand you can sometimes be difficult
"DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?"
This was a fun little guy.
The girls in the turtle shell and...
Sidney's picture she took

A very cool albino peacock
with beautiful feathers.
Sidney had such a blast taking over 179 pictures
and 39 of them actually being good.

We had a great day and THANK YOU BRIDGET for this priceless picture!

My Blessing from God

I went to pick up my new van yesterday. As most of you know our Jeep had a heart attack, so to speak and died 2 weeks ago. It had 230,000 miles on it so we figured it wasn't worth trying to revive it. After days of prayer Jarrett's parents stepped in to help us out financially to get a new vehicle.

The girls and I brought home our new 2002 Honda Odyssey. It has 70,000 miles on it and was owned and maintained regularly by an elderly couple who never had any problems with it. The interior is in excellent condition. I don't think they ever sat in the back seats they look so nice!

Jarrett was amazed at God's provision. It appears that the new vehicle was everything I had prayed for. I wanted a Honda Odyssey, I wanted a mini van with 3 rows, I wanted tinted windows and rear ac, I wanted for my own peace of mind that the vehicle be previously owned by an elderly couple who took great care of it and well here it is!

I actually got to speak with the former owners and ask them a few questions. They said they loved the van and didn't want to trade it in but were offered $6000 towards a new car because they have been Honda owners for so long. The loved the comfort of the van but opted to downsize.

The van was missing the 3 headrest for the 3rd row when we looked at it. The sales man said the van was "as is". So I ask the owner when I spoke to him if they happened to have them some where stuck in a closet. He said he would look and see. 3 days later when we picked it up...there in the 3rd row were 3 headrests!  (and he also found and brought the 2nd key)

We are looking forward to carpooling, summer trips, weekend trips to Tucson or Flagstaff and anything that has to do with riding in the new van.

God is good and has truly blessed this family!

Ok this is for all the OCD clean freaks out there! (Less than 24 hours of owning my new van Latavia stepped in dog poop and got it all inside the new car...ahhh. I don't think I have ever been so mad. after 1 hour, carpet cleaner and febreeze I think we are going to be ok.)
